We are a current customer using an installed version of OfficeClip T&E Version 7.5.7 on a VM with Windows Server 2003 SP2 and SQL 2005.

We will be upgrading to the current version 10.1.23 and increasing our licenses to support a larger 200+ user community.

What is the recommended upgrade path given the large version jump?

This is a mission critical system and we are reluctant to update over existing system without a confirmation of likely success.

Should we install the new version as new instance on same server and copy data over, so we can run in parallel for testing first?

Should we go to a newer version of SQL such as SQL 2008 or higher.

Etc.

Thanks,

Here are my recommendations:

  1. Install the latest version of OfficeClip from our website: https://download.officeclip.com/officeclip10.zip (run setup.exe). This will install the sql server express 2008 R2. If you want to avoid installing our sql express and want to install on your own sql server then run setupNoSql.exe (see the readme.html file)

  2. If you are using your own sql server, we recommend sql 2008 r2 (if you want to install on sql 2005 please let us know first, we probably need to provide additional support). The default sql server express that we bundle should work fine for you.

  3. Once you have installed everything and it is setup and running properly, take a backup of the new OfficeClip database and the configuration files (all ends with .config, you can also run OfficeClip.Install.OcBackupWin.exe to do the backup. Request a new license from us from the Settings > Manage License screen

  4. Take a backup of the database from the old machine and restore it in the new machine in place of the OfficeClip database. Now start OfficeClip, at this point OfficeClip will try to upgrade the database. It will likely fail here (because of the big version difference). If this happens, we will need to repair the database for you.

  5. If everything installs then just apply the license that we will send you (from step 3)

  6. If anything fails or if you have issues, please contact me and I will remotely be able to help you to get this working.
