When you do upgrades on the OfficeClip Suite installed at your computer, the following happens:
- The existing version of OfficeClip is removed automatically
- The new version of OfficeClip is installed
- All database script changes that are made between two versions are systemically applied
Usually this process is straight forward, fail-safe and automatic. There is however a small possiblity that the upgrade may fail. This can happen if:
- You have manually edited some files (or these have been peeked by your virus scanner) so that the OfficeClip installer could not replace them.
- The database got corrupted (or changed on purpose) in a way that did not allow us to make script updates.
- Any other problems in the system which forced the installer to abort without rollback.
Following precautions can be taken to minimize this impact:
- Make a backup of the database before upgrading OfficeClip. You can do the database back using the OfficeClip supplied tool OfficeClip.Tools.OCBackupGUI.exe (available in 7.7.8 and higher) in the installed folder (or use Sql Management Studio Express).
- Make a backup of the documents, which is in the upload sub-folder of the installed folder.
- If you wish, you can make the backup of the complete installed folder.
To upgrade just double click on the setup.exe file after you have downloaded and uncompressed the zip file from OfficeClip Download Site. If the upgrade fails here are some of the steps you need to take:
- Go to the folder c:\program files\officeclip\8\log (in older edition the folder is 7 instead of 8) and double click on index.html, then see the log of the latest log file. Find out if there is any error (shows in red background).
- zip this log file and email it to OfficeClip Support @ (ocsupport at officeclip dot com) and follow it up with the detail information regarding the problem.
OfficeClip will be pleased to provide you with free upgrade support. Edited by user Tuesday, May 12, 2009 2:07:26 PM(UTC)
